How to Prepare for an Interview
An interview is like an exam. Preparation and method in the interview are key factors for success.
Body Language
A golden rule is to make a powerful first impression. You can only make one of these! Make it a strong and positive one. This involves understanding body language. Confident eye contact and a firm handshake certainly help. An understanding of body language is also important pick up on how the interview is progressing. It is important for example to pay close attention to the behaviour of those interviewing you and respond where necessary.
Visualisation
You must also appear to be valuable – never appear desperate – even in these tough times. Get them to imagine you in the job already, by asking qustions like, “In the job, what kinds of strategic projects would I be involved in?" Or “When working on this client account, what kinds of things would I be doing on a daily basis?” These types of questions will help the company conducting the interview to visualise you working for them and will increase your chances of success.
Questioning
At the same time, it is very important for you ask intelligent questions. These kinds of questions help to illustrate your interest in their business. In terms of your preparation, you could try to imagine the kinds of questions that will be asked. Frequently-asked questions include: "Why do you want to work for this company?", "What will you bring to the job and how does your experiences and/or education help?"
